Hi all,

thanx to all people - dvd2svcd is really a great tool!

After converting a lot of dvd's I now beginn to "play" with
the options.

And now I have a question:

Is there anywhere a description of the functionality of all this fine options, like Image Quality, temporalsmoother....

I would like to know what I can influence with these options....

Thanx for your help and happy ripping
Scotty

Scotty, use the search button to look those things up in one or both of the dvd2svcd forums. A lot of info is there. Good luck

Edit: However, those defaults are there for a reason. I would suggest you just allow D2S to work with them, especially in VBR mode. The only thing you need to change is choosing how many disks you want in the bitrate tab (upper lines). Everything else is automatic.

Too many people are messing with the settings (especially the bitrate settings)and screwing themselves up. D2S was designed to do this stuff for you, automatically.

Hint: Set default directory in misc tab. After pressing the disk icon in the conversion tab, select the chapter drop down. At the bottom is the total length. Go to bitrate tab and make sure that total length is covered by the range for the amount of disks you want. Change that line if needed. Turn off audio downsampling in the audio tab. Set audio at 160 (ok to set at 224 if you have plenty of bitrate). Go back to conversion tab and hit GO.

Experiment with TemporalSmoother 2,1 if bitrate is running < 1600.

Definately use the search in not only this forum, but the CCE one as well.
The default IQP is a very good choice. I may lower it a little if I know that I will have extra space on a CD, but there are always trade offs with everything. If you go to low the image can come out worse.

My biggest recomendation is CDRW discs and the chapters selection ability. This way there are no wasted discs and limits the amount of time wasted. Always test with difficult material and chapters. This way you know you are pushing the limits of the encode.

Make sure to play every test disc in your stand alone player and listen for audio problems. For me that is the first place I notice if I have my bitrates too high.

You may want to try the different resize methods (Simple, Bilinear, Bicubic) to see what you like.

Lastly understand that you are going outside the defaults and you may have problems. It is up to you to figure it out. Posting here outside the defaults will get very few if any responses if you have problems. Most of the answers will say go back to defaults which is not what you want to hear.
