View Full Version : Things you shouldn't do while using DGDecodeNV?

Hey,
after nearly 12 month I started to use DGDecodeNV again, because I got a new system with a Nvidia graphics board.
I noticed that some of my encodes were erroneous. (I never had issues like these while I had to use ffmsindex over the last couple of month.)
Since I actively use the machine while doing encoding jobs in the background, I was wondering if there are some rules or simple things you should NOT do while DGDecodeNV is running as frame-server.
F.e.
- Can I use a screen saver or let the graphics board shut down the output signal?
- Can I play a game using Direct3D/OpenGL?
- Can I use multiple instances of DGDecodeNV at the same time?
- Can I play back video using the graphics board via DXVA?

You should describe the nature of the "erroneous" results, as it may not even be related to your questions below.
- Can I use a screen saver or let the graphics board shut down the output signal?
- Can I play a game using Direct3D/OpenGL?
- Can I use multiple instances of DGIndexNV at the same time?
- Can I play back video using the graphics board via DXVA? Disable the screensaver. Do not play games or view videos while encoding. Yes, you can use multiple instances of DGSource(). During encoding it's advised not to open up another DGIndexNV, although theoretically it is OK.
Hopefully people that actually do encodes (not me!) may chime in with their experiences.
Following these guidelines should ensure proper results. If you continue to have issues, please use my support forum.

I never noticed any problems watching videos with DXVA while using DGIndexNV.

We need to be precise. The encoding process uses DGDecodeNV, not DGIndexNV.

Ups. My bad. I meant DGDecodeNV. I changed my post but I cant change the topic.

I had a few glitches a while back, and had to re-encode. It happened during a small window of time. I assume they were just hardware errors, like a cosmic particle collision. I don't have any encoding errors anymore. My encodes turn out just fine if I am doing other things while encoding (surfing, video watching, audio encoding.) Building a workstation with ECC would be the best way to guarantee a perfect encode.

Found it. Thank you. :)

Damn. I found another file with a corrupted video stream.
Is there any useful tool to check AVC streams for errors?

I've encoded dozens of videos while playing games without any problems...

Well I definitely can't. I get distortions in the video stream when encoding while playing games. So I use ffmsindex if I want to play at the same time.

Nevermind. I have already deleted any faulty file.
It varied from macroblock errors to complete loss of the stream. So any decoder stopped at the faulty position on playback.
Since I avoided doing anything that uses the video engine while frameserving with dgdecodenv I had no issues so far.

I was just curious because I've used DGDecodeNV extensively and haven't seen anything, but admittedly haven't intently watched the encoded output that closely. I mostly skip around and make sure it plays.

I've had a whole batch of erroneous encodes again lately. Enough to be very pissed off. The compare function in avisnyth simply doesn't work for me. Does anyone know of anything to compare two clips and log any drastically different frames? I need server hardware soon.
