View Full Version : Can't get past the 1st pass

I just built a PC with an i7-2600K CPU and while encoding with xvid using GKnot, it won't go past the 1st pass. It just keeps running and running. In the status monitor, the rate drops to 0 fps and nothing further happens. Then using the task manager, I manually kill VDub and the second pass starts but does the same thing as the first pass. I've tried several different versions of xvid and now I'm using the latest xvid codec and avisynth 1.58. What could be the cause of this?

There is a compatibility problem with the Gordian Knot internals and this new processor/chipset because I was able to encode it using vdub 1.91 without any errors. Does anybody have any idea how to remedy the problem?

Iirc GKnot uses VirtualDubMod, right? Does the problem happen if you use the VDMod included with GKnot on its own? If yes, you could try using a current VDub instead, just change the VDub exe path in the GKnot settings. You’ll probably have to do audio muxing manually because VDub is quite different from VDubMod in that regard.

On the whole, you’re dealing with severly outdated software that hasn’t been maintained for years—that’s true for both VDMod and GKnot. Problems with new hardware/software are bound to crop up eventually...

I tried substituting VDub for VDubMod but that didn't work. VDubMod and Nandub just dont work with this new chipset so I'm using GKnot to create the d2v.avs, load it in Vdub to encode, mux and split. It works like a charm. I imagine people using AutoGKnot are going to run into this problem as well. Thanks for trying to help.

Any special reason why you don’t switch to a modern frontend like StaxRip or MeGUI? They can do everything GKnot can and a lot more.

I've never had the need to try anything other than GKnot until now so I'll give them a try. Thanks again.

I noticed in your other thread.... the one closed by a mod because you had the audacity to disagree with him.... you said you asked about your VirtualDub problem in the VirtualDub forum and got the information you were looking for.
Did you find the cause of the problem? Is it a Gnot problem and not a VirtualDub one? I'm just curious as I'm about to upgrade my PC to the same CPU and while I don't use Gnot I still use VirtualDubMod and AutoGK.

If it's only a Gnot problem I still think AutoGK is a great choice for backing up DVDs to AVI. For x264/MKV encoding, I'd recommend MeGUI.

I used both virtualdub and virtualdubmod fine with a i72600k and z68 chipset.

I seriously doubt that the cpu and/or chipset is causing the problem.
More then likely, there is an issue with his installation of the OS and/or other software that is causing the problems.

Nope. His other thread was closed because of his insults/profanity. And I urge everybody to NOT go off-topic in this thread...
