Ok I am recording some family events and the such wiht a Sony HD Handycam, they come out as AVCHD obviously. So when I go to use Pinnacle HD and set it up to create a BD the quality percentage on the program says it drops to 63%, even tho there is plenty of space on the BD left.

If i use a DVD-R it says 100% quality but the disc is filled with the 12 minutes of footage.

Is there really a quality loss? Or am I being trolled by my own program?

Thank You

Yes for both. :)
I don't use Pinnacle HD but I do (did ;)) DVB-S2 recordings. In SD (I still use the MiniDV) I "shot to cut" so I don't need fancy editors, a simple cutter and a titler are more than enough.
So, in both cases (HD and SD) I can do my work with freeware/donationware, which are generally more "transparent" (for instance you know whether your footage is unaltered or not).

Bottomline, if don't think you need fancy transitions (a clear sign of amateurism) and restrict yourself to plain cuts, you can author your files with MultiAVCHD and tsmuxer. You can use subtitles as titling. Give it a try.

Well there are no transistion the thing is im wondering if 10 minutes of AVCHD on a DVDr actually looks better then the same 1080p AVCHD on a blu-ray.

Thanks

If and only if the footage was not reencoded, and provided your player can read AVCHD from a DVDR, there should be no difference.
