I've been using TSMuxer to convert MKV's that I've ripped from blu rays back to blu ray and was wondering if there was any way of doing the same for avi (or other video formats) back to DVD?

This would save me a large amount of time as I'm currently using Nero vision 10 to recode and burn which takes about 20 mins.

The problem is that DVDs use MPEG2 video, while AVIs are mostly MPEG4 part2, so you cannot get around spending time for reencoding. MKVs are mostly H.264, which luckily happens to be a format allowed on Blu-Rays, so that's different.

What if I converted the AVI's to MPEG2? I know that I'd lose the compression advantage but it might be worth it to save time on the recode.

"converted the AVI's to MPEG2" = "recode"
At one point the AVI will have to be converted, it doesn't matter whether you do it beforehand or let Nero do it automatically. You cannot get around that.
