View Full Version : Cleaning up a DVD

I've been going through my DVDs, and I've found a few which I've been told have the sharpness set too high creating these halo effects. Is there any way to fix this? I was also going to add that the halo is a red and green color.

Notice the green and red halo on his shoes?

That looks like comb filtering artifacts to me (assuming you're talking about the visible pattern on the right shoe). I haven't a clue how you clean that up though.

Yup, I was referring to the rainbow effect on the shoe.

What DVD has 900 scanlines?
These comb artefacts must be dealt with during capture (the easiest way is to use S-Video cables). If there's a commercial DVD there's no much to do without sacrificing a bit of the details, but if it's your leg, recapture the whole thing once again.

I didn't actually make this DVD. It's something I bought from the store. The show is almost 20 years old, and the DVD came out back in 2000 or so. It's The X-Files.
Anyways, here's some more stuff I've noticed.

Colored flickering on the guy's tie.

And again on the tinfoil.
So basically what you're saying is that whoever made this is pretty much the only person capable of fixing this issue? As you said, recapture the whole thing.
