I am totally new at this, and am trying to rip a copy of a DVD to my hard drive. I have the DVD Decrypter, as well as Daemon Tools Lite, and a Software DVD player. Regardless of mode (I tried all 3), when I try to rip the DVD to my hard drive (plenty of room...it copies it, but I get a series of error messages, all including, "Failed to set data for...(' '; DVDDecrypterPlayDVDMovieOnArrival, and repeated addditional "Failed to set data for' ' ").NOTE: There is no spece between the quotation marks, I put it that was because they are single "quote marks ('), not the reqular (") double quote. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?:thanks:

Also: The messages appear at the end of what appears to be an otherwise sucessful copy session.:confused:

DVD Decrypter has been replaced by ImgBurn hasn't it? AFAIK, it is the same author, just a different program name. Correct me if I am wrong.

What is ImgBurn? (http://www.imgburn.com/)

@QBhd

No, IMGBurn does NOT have any decrypting/ripping capability...

@Allie6toes

Your operating system is undoubtedly more current/modern than the DVD Decrypter program is (Last updated over 5 years ago). This may be the reason for the informational messages (Not necessary fatal error messages.)

I'd suggest you try using a more current decrypting/ripping program, such as DVDFabHD (free version of the DVDFab series of programs)...

Ahh... I have not had to rip anything in a long time and did not know those features had been removed from his software.

Thanks

Allie6toes, try DVDFab HD Decrypter - it's free, has similar ripping abilities to DVD Decrypter and is regularly updated for operating system compatibility and current DVD copy protection schemes.

QBhd, ImgBurn never had ripping abilities - it replaced DVD Decrypter only as a burning tool.

I understood that... my reference to "his software" was meant as an entirety, ie. DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn... as I said, I had not needed to use those features since I started using ImgBurn, so I never thought to look and find out they weren't there :)

ImgBurn never ripped anything else than unprotected discs.
I assume your HDD is NTFS-formatted, either you did this from a restricted account (user, not admin) or the directory doesn't allow you to set the attributes.
If dvdshrink loads the dvd with no complaints, the dvd was more than 99% correctly ripped.

Thanks to all...I wish I could do it right now, but I'll have to wait 'till I get home from work to try these excellent suggestions!

A newbie, indeed!

:thanks: TY everyone...I now have 2 damaged DVD sets backed up on my hard drive. I spent almostm $200 on the 2 sets, and some of the disks are cracked or chipped...I managed to get a playable backup before any of the (5) disks crapped out! :)

I am familiar with the issue you are referring to. It has been around since the switch to vista from XP. It is easily resolved by running dvd decrypter as an administrator. In windows you can right click on the icon and use the compatability tab to make sure this is always the behavior. In windows 7 64 bit it doesn't seem to be an issue at all if I rip the image to a place on the disk that my user has permission to write to even if i don't run it as an administrator, it just complains as the application is closing. If I write somewhere like the root of the drive where I don't have permission there might be issues. Simple solution is to simply run it as an administrator every time or switch to something like dvdfab, the dvd ripping functionality is free and its still supported.
