just for grins i decide to do some encoding in the realmedia format. i know this format is not very popular here, but i was curious what kind of streaming quality i would get.

the process:

dvd
evolution
101 min

dvd2avi
create a .d2v project

mpeg2dec
LoadPlugin("C:\...\MPEG2DEC.DLL")
video=mpeg2source("C:\...\file.d2v")
audio=wavsource("C:\...\file.wav")
audiodub(video,audio)
BicubicResize(320,160)

realproducer
2-pass vbr
450 bitrate

encoding duration
approx. 2 hours

comments or opinions.

Oh,

I did quite a few RM encodings from TV captures... A few months ago there were quite a few discussions about the RM format vs. Divx ;-) etc.

In my experience, especially cartoons like South park are looking really good...

However I would never encode backup a DVD with RM... Brrr...Last year or so they wrote in the german mag about backing your DVD to RM, LOL . Only anime or so could be worth it (and if you don't have much space, of course)...

But, again, everyone has his own opinion!

Cheers...

when backing up dvd's i either use divx or svcd. i just thought it would be cool to goof around with realmedia and see what i would come up with.

at a resolution of 320 x 160 and a bitrate of 450 the sample clips don't look half bad over the net.

i also did some testing with the windows media encoder 8 just for the fun of it.

Isibaar was mumbling something about adding a special 'cartoon mode' to XviD... :) It might not come that soon but I certainly am curious.
