Last pieces of news was in 2010, and since there no news has come through.

When will it be finished?

The timescale for completing the HEVC (aka H.265) standard is as follows:
February 2012: Committee Draft (complete draft of standard)
July 2012: Draft International Standard
January 2013: Final Draft International Standard (ready to be ratified as a Standard)

That sounds totally unrealistic, it isn't even feature complete yet last time i read, and they only have 6 months before a final draft?

Huh, 6 month? If the above info is current, then the "final draft" is scheduled for Jan 2013, which is about 18 months from now...
