I just got the Die Hard collection on blu ray and went to rip it and encode it to my hard drive. Im a linux user so i usually use dvdfab under wine to rip the m2ts file to the HD then encode with avidemux. When i open the filein avidemux it says it cant determine the aspect ration and sets it at some weird number like 80x700 or something like that. So then i booted into windows to try it in megui. Megui seemed to detect everything fine but when i go to encode it no matter what filesize i specified the final result of the avi file was always around 1Gb and it looked like the video had been squished a little. Im assuming this is related to the aspect ratio problem avidemux was complaining about. Has anyone ever experienced this before or have any idea whats going on? By the way this is on the 1st die hard movie i havent tried the others so far.

Considering you're asking your question in the "Newbies" section, you might want to try the suggestions given to you before you say that it won't help.
