I mean your system when encoding? ;)
I just set up a 1gig duron and My idle temps is about 37-40 and under heavy encoding I jump up to between 45-47 degrees..
I thought that was sorta high.. hows everyones temps run?
Also on my CCE, I get .411- .476 is that normal for a 1 gig?

your temps are fine
it does max the cpu out
and there is a big thread here for speeds:

Hi jasond,
i just can confirm what xrv1138 said. I have a 1.2GHz Duron with all my Coolers (Power Supply and CPU) running at just 7 Volts (so they run so quiet you nearly can't hear them anymore) and my idle temps ar 50-54 degrees (celsius) and 62-64 degrees when in encoding and there is no problem with the stability of the CPU - never had a single crash with my system. (But to be on the safe side i can go back to let the coolers run with 12 Volts by pressing a switch on my case. - But never needed it so far because i will never ever hear this annoying noise from the coolers anymore.)
When running at 12 Volts, i nearly have the same temps like you.
Greetings,
gerti67
P.S. Speed really depends on a lot of things just have a look at the thread xrv1138 mentioned. (My CCE RT: 0.955-1.075 with PAL and SimpleResize)

hmmmm great idea gerti67, I dont want our system getting too loud with fans due to the fact its in our family room where we watch tv,etc
I did try it with 2 extra 50mm exhaust fans, only cooled it about 2 degrees cooler..
Ordered another 80mm quiet fan, so that should help along with my current 80mm and my volcano3 HS(only have radio shack compound on it though)

added an extra fan point towards my chip...dropped heat to 35/42 under heavy load
CCE also speeded up to almost 1. :D
would cooling effect it that much? cause i used my same movie with crash recovery to resume :)
pretty good fix for a $5 80mm fan :)

when i first built my athlon 1.1g it used to crash out under load at about 69 deg so i fitted 4 x 120mm delta fans (overkill i know :) )
this pc now runs at about 25deg under max load and is very stable (runs for days on end). the big downside to this is it sounds like a jet taking off :(

you could do like I think I will do.. hot extra fans up to switches.. that way I can turn them on when I "need" them.

I've got my 1GHz T-Bird running reeeeeal cool by installing a rear case fan and I've cut a hole at the top of the right side panel and fitted an 80mm fan that sucks all the hot air out of the top of the case (near power supply & CPU). Under load, the CPU hits about 38 degrees (room temp 20). The CPU cooler is a Globalwin with 7000rpm which drives me nuts, so I drop it down a few volts with a resistor and when I leave the room I short the resistor out with a switch on the front panel.
