I will get soon for one day a tape that was badly recorded. The tape had a rewind problem and this went unnoticed, so the recording had a glitch every rotation of the supply reel. The tracks probably went one over the other at these spots, but I still think it can be saved, or at least corrected.
Had anyone of you such an issue and if yes how was it solved?
I repeat: I don't have the cassette and when I'll have it I'll have it for 1 day only. I need to prepare the things beforehand, thus the question.

Just in case somebody got the wrong idea: - I don't need an AviSynth script to duplicate the frames (this can do my TBC as well), I need a HW solution, a good player (tracking).

could the tape be reassembled in a new case with new reels?
or would that not get to the problem?
the only other thing i can think of is to place something onto the core in exactly the right position and then wind the tape over it, to create a variation in tape speed that hopefully gives the TBC enough smoothing out of the original bumps that it can work a signal out of it.
but this would be trial-and-error and may not improve things at all.

The tape IIRC runs today very smoothly, it was an one-time error, according to Murphy during its recording.
Variable tracking was my first thought, unfortunatelly there's no VHS or S-VHS (apart from BR-S525) that has one.

So have you tried any solution or it got solved just like that?

Are you sure? it is can be a loss of a synchro signal problem.

I was present when it was recorded, a young would-be engineer back then so nobody listened me to wind/rewind the tape before, the tape is now in studio and I'll have it for one day as soon I'll find a strategy. It's not my property.
