View Full Version : ffdshow tryouts vs. "original" ffdshow latest releases?

Can anyone tell me what the lasted release versions are of both ffdshow tryouts and the original ffdshow?

I keep reading here that the lastest release of the original was 2006, but during searches trying to understand how to open MP4s in VDMod I may get one page saying the latest was a few days ago (including Wikipedia), some of the pages with back links to the 2006 version and others to a version a few days easier.

Then I read about ffdshow tryouts for the first time but can't figure out what is considered the lasted version ("Beta 7," if that is the current version, gives me the impression of not being a stable release) but I think I also visited two different links each giving a different most-recent-update date.

I'm already completely confused and I haven't even moved to the actual process of trying to get the MP4s to open :scared:

The ffdshow_tryout builds are a continuation from the original ffdshow builds. I guess many also think the name has little meaning that they are the continuation of the original ffdshow project. With new blood, ideas, and coders makingthem who different beast than it first was. I was supprised also when i tried it for the first time recently. After put of years ago with the old ffdshow. I to would have had known sooner it was different if had a more discriptive name.

How did you miss it !! lol it was the top post in this same forum. Right now located just beneath this post on the forum :D

btw VDMod is also ancient really ancient. Use a newer VirtualDub build which will most probably better for your video projects ;)

Anything ffdshow related that you see in the past years is from ffdshow tryouts (that is the project name on SourceForge). We however just call it plain "ffdshow".

As said i was put of with old ffdshow, as it was a total different beast to newer tryout versions of now. In that the old ffdshow would mess up the codecs, evn after adjusting merits nothing seemed to work correct. Now though that has all been sorted out no such issue. What i meant by name if i knew it had changed then years of not using it. Where if knew of the change via name would have been using it.

I look at wiki and it states the lbest stable version to use are the 'official release version' as would be expected. Though on this page the 'official release versrion' is a beta build. When has ever a beta build been a release version, isn't a 'release version' supposed to be non beta !

Home / Official releases / generic build (stable)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/Official%20releases/generic%20build%20%28stable%29/

Name: ffdshow_beta7_rev3154_20091209.exe

I'm sure people think itmust be an error and install it anyway or go looking for an actual 'release version' if exists. Looking for it since need to get a version working again after trying anpdated version that didn't work.

An easy cosmetic fix. Many times not only with ffdshow i'm not sure of dates on files when stated. Such as these http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/SVN%20builds%20by%20clsid/generic%20builds/

ffdshow_rev3721_20110107_clsid.exe 2011-01-07 4.9 MB 193,778 downloads
ffdshow_rev3713_20110102_clsid.exe 2011-01-02 4.9 MB 3,208 downloads

I know by looking around i can find out the date is reversed on an english written site where would normaly expect them to be instead

ffdshow_rev3721_20110107_clsid.exe 07-01-2011 4.9 MB 193,778 downloads
ffdshow_rev3713_20110102_clsid.exe 02-01-2011 4.9 MB 3,208 downloads

Right now located just beneath this post on the forum :D I did not miss it, but with all of the places I had bounced around giving different information. I wasn't even going to trust that topic as up-to-date. I needed someone to ground me again.

The reason I use VDMod is that I have never liked the feel of the original. And feel almost always trumps functionality for me. If not for seeing VDMod (after finding and using VirtualDub for only a short while) I probably would have moved on to something completely different.

Thanks for pointing me back in the right direction.

The nice thing with newer betas of VirtualDub it can encode in formats other than avi fi you need to. I have to try this out have been busy trying fix ffdshow to work on pc atm. Had a quick look and if know the correct cli setting for encoder all should be well. Or i guess easier if use graphstudio or graphedit to build a filter using the property pages to adjust settings with a ui (if available, propage maybe needed). Then save graph to file, open in notepad and copy to vdub. Actualy i would expect virtualdub to be able to import a graph file for use use, then easy as abc.
