video.NET allows various inputs and converts to MKV or MP4 and uses 'HandBrakeCLI' for these core routines.

Requirements:
Windows XP|Vista (latest SP)
Windows 7
.NET Framework 4

The look and layout may be a little unorthodox but shouldn’t be too strange for anyone that has used one of my other programs, rebox.NET.

FIX: Fixed start of encode crash - I'd forgot to comment something out, doh!
Changed the output size limit combo boxes to prevent 'upscaling' sizes from appearing - maybe confusing.
Added 'tooltips' for buttons - slight feedback given so you know what they do!
Cleaned up the 'job list' code and prevention of any weird button behaviours.
Added power saving suspension whilst encoding, restored to previous state after encode.
Changed/Added some more error routines.
Added another 'tune' preset for Apple devices (fast encode).
Added some more output file naming checks and auto-increments.
Again, changed|added loads of little things.

Hi,

I have used your avi.net for years and loved it. I then moved on to blurays and have tried /currently trying different encoders.I have downloaded your latest and look forward to additions as you make them available. Pls provide mouse overs for button. Hopefully i can provide some usefull feedback.

Just ran a 11 min test file i created that is a m2ts with ac3 audio and ran it through your program. Not so much as a hiccup and plays great on my xbox 360 . Looks great and i have a 60 in plasma to watch it on.

Richard:thanks:

Glad it all works OK for you so far. I presume 'mouse overs for buttons' you mean something like some text or something popping up when you hover over? I'll see how to best implement it.

Yes thats what i was trying to say . For me personally the only other thing i would hope to see is being able to add forced subtitles in the pgs format. The xbox 360 doesn't have the abitlity to toggle subs and i dont care for hard coded subs. Other than that seems good. :thanks:

Been a long-time avi.NET user myself before i switch to x264.
Hopefully this tool gets as great as avi.NET too, it certainly looks first class.:)

Yeh the consoles are a bit of a pain when it comes to non-hardcoded subtitles, just got to hope future updates start adding support, but I doubt it. As for the PGS format, if memory serves right I think that's something that will be supported in future, or maybe already is in the handbrake nightly builds.... can't remember.

The more i move around inside the interface the more i like it. Seems to have a natural flow to it. Another program i am putzing with that i found on this forum has the choice for using forced pgs subs, just an fyi really.

Good, I know the look/interface is a little strange at first but it is easy to get the hang of. The subs and forced subs seem to work great with DVDs, just checked the handbrake forums, Blu-ray subs are definitely planned but nothing as yet as far as I'm aware.

Talking of PGS subs, don't know much about what supports them, the problem is I only have one Blu-ray disk, and no Blu-ray drive in my PC, how lame is that ;-) Testing video.NET with a Blu-ray source I had to take an external hard drive with my disk to my brothers, rip it, bring it back on my drive, doh....... and there's no subs on the disk...... I know it's a bit of a hassle but can you add them manually after? using MKVmerge or MP4box?

i have tried ,but was having trouble with mkvmerge because they had header compression enabled by default which made the file unusable for me until i figured out what was going on and disabled it. i havent tried since, but aparently that will only give you hard subs which is a pita .

good news is drive prices are coming way down and used movies are dirt cheap.

The Scientist

Yeh that 'header compression' stuff was a pain for a while. I'm confused about your 'hard subs'?????? MKVmerge will not give you 'hard subs', only soft.

i am anything but an expert lol all i know is i tried mkvmerge and had trouble and have not tried since. All i want is to have forced subs though i have only had a couple movies that required this.

Crashes for me whenever I start an encode. Tried going from .mp4 to .mkv and .avi to .mkv. Also FYI it's spelled "Minimize".

Anyway how did you apply the x264 tuning? I assume you changed the x264 advanced options: what settings did you pick?

Looks nice will try.

Yeh, looks like I broke the latest RC1, had to put the older beta back up.

Also FYI it's spelled "Minimize".
FYI no it's not, I'm English British.... not American. :)

Oh sorry mate. Had not heard of that particular difference.

Sorry about the RC1 crash, I had just forgot to uncomment something in the code. Should be all OK now.

Like colour and color there is a difference just to confuse the masses. I still prefer the word colour.

Hi

trying the RC3, conversion went smoothly but i was unable to close video.net, i had to kill the process, im using windows 7 SP1.

I read the guide on your website, one question?

Will you add the possibility to pick our own resolution?

By the way i noticed in the screenshots you had a h262/mpg2 file as source, did you created it using this:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=157675

can you share, i don't have the "know how" to compile it.

Thank you.

Are you completely sure it had actually finished? Did the white|orange feedback text vanish? Handbrake does sometimes sit there at 100%, especially on larger|slower encodes, it hasn't crash, it just needs to sit there until completely done. It's the only thing that comes to mind at the moment.

Not sure.

As for the h262/mpg2 question, no, it's just a standard non DVD mpeg2 file I had used.

Recently I converted a movie (ts) and had the second line of the subtitles cut off. WinFF did the job. Could you look into this error ?

Also could you use the original name of the source (or it's parent) plus a suffix as target name ?
