My mother has a Panasonic DMR-EX89EB DVD recorder / HDD.
She cannot play her DVD's that have "No region coding". It actually does state "Buried" in the player manual that they cannot be played, but however, I have been copying and burning CD-r using DVD shrink (each of the dvd's so far will fit on one cdr) and adding region coding. Initially region 2, then all regions 1-5 then region free. These all work in my pc's and dvd players but not in the panny.
Message on screen is "incompatible tv system".
The original DVD's played well on her last DVD player.

The discs are NTSC but her TV is dual PAL / NTSC so I dont see this as a reason why they wont play.

Anyone got any thoughts / ideas? They would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to be the model for GB/UK. The user manual is on its way to me (17MB) but meanwhile....
The message would mean that the player has a problem with the TV system, not with the region setting. See whether is a TV system setting somewhere in the menu (change it to AUTO or NTSC or PAL/NTSC) or by key combinations.
And I think you meant DVDR instead of CDR, as no player I know can play DVD video data on CDR (it has to be a special format called MiniDVD, whihc is playable in a handfull of models).

Read pages 16 and 75.

i have literally just found the answer, the hdd/dvd was set to pal so going through setup to change to ntsc fixed it. but i have to thank you for taking the time, much appreciated, and the answer is on p74!

No need to argue on an insignificant detail, but on the web manual it's page 75 (TV system), probably the printed one has a different pagination.
Glad to see you solved the problem. Feel free to let your DVDs on ALL as the region code is concerned.
