The rules are that the forum is in English. Just about no one uses it properly, even moderators, who are supposed to be setting the example to follow. I know most people that come on here don't speak English, so they should stay off or learn to use it properly. I can't understand most of what people post anymore. This needs to be enforced.

Too bad for you--I've been here for a lot of years and think most posters try very hard and are able to make their points. And if not I commend them for trying!

I can make out a lot of what foreign people try to say. When I can't then that means their language is pretty horrible. Aside, proper grammar, capitalization, and punctuation should be enforced. Text message lingo shouldn't be allowed.

All the rules state is that the official language is English. They mention nothing of using it properly or legibly.

What... are you serious?
Do you know how hard it is to learn another language, or pluck up the courage to post on a forum that is not of your native language ? obviously not or you would not have posted this flame bait in the first place. You should travel a little and see how people help YOU in non English speaking countries.

I really think most of this thread is a bit elitist and snobby - here in Australia a truly multicultural society we deal with all sorts of accents and all levels of spelling and grammar - maybe because our national character is more laid back no one bothers about it. It's worth the effort or challenge to work out the meaning behind the words and be helpful rather than having an old world colonial or xenophobic attitude. "It's so last century!"
Finally the future of the world is multicultural with people from all races and religions living everywhere so it's worth getting in some practice.. :)

Since the rules don't state anything about English being used in a matter that suits your ability to comprehend it, what is there to enforce?

Ok, enough. There are a lot of us non-native englishwriters and we will try our best, there's nothing in the rules about having any kind of degree.
