ok it is like this.
ffmpeg and mencoder are very good.
but they seems to be quit slow.
or is there some speed settings to do with them.
then there was handbrake.
Handbrake is fast as hell in encoding.
they did have xvid support in those old 0.93 but that one is old any 0.94 and 0.95 does not have xvid support.
So is there any other encoding engine that can handle mkv as input and output avi with avid.
the best would be if it not has xvid in it so it use the codecyou have on your computer so I can use xvid 1.22 or the new 1.3RC
And has the Speed of handbrake.

AFAIK, StaxRip and MeGUI.
But they are encoder GUI.

yea and that does not do anything with the speed as megui is Mencoder GUI.

And I did miss to write that has the speed of handbrake but can encode to xvid.

Not for Xvid. MeGUI uses xvid_encraw. Mencoder is used only for SNOW encoding and pre-rendering jobs.

ok.
does xvid_encraw only use avisynth script as input.
or does it have the ffmpeg decoder part.

I believe it decodes AVI input through VFW.
