OK after a weeks determination and a lot of help from all you forum members I have finally managed my first SVCD with success.

I still rate myself as a newbie but I thought I would give a few pointers that might help those newbies still having problems with cce crashing or audio being out of sync. Obviously these problems may only relate to me but then again who knows.

Firstly if you have upgraded your ram since installing windows you will need to reset the Virtual Memory settings, I upgraded to 512mb and reset the Initial Size to 512mb and Maximum Size to 512mb. Whilst CCE is running open up the Task Manager and watch howmuch memory is being used and how much is spare, I discoverd cce was crashing or freezing only when all the memory was being used up, if you find yourself running out check what processes are being run in Task Manager, I found that various programs that were running in the background, eg virus checker, cd burner, downloader etc. were actually taking up about about 40-50mb, shutting all these down let cce run with no problems.

I'm using dvd2svcd ver 1.0.6 build 3, with the following settings:
BITRATE Max 2450 Min 300 Max Average 2250
CCE safe mode ticked, Multipass 3
FRAMESERVER No temporalsmoother

To burn the SVCD, I used nero 5.5.7.2 at 4x, I didn't use the wizard, but went straight to FILE, BURN IMAGE

Finally my little whinge, there are a lot of threads in the forum from people who have problems, me included, yet I don't see many from people who have then sorted out there problems, come on everyone when you do manage to complete your SVCD, share the knowledge with everyone.

And of course a big thanks to dvd2svcd and don't forget a little donation to keep him going, mine is on it's way

Regards
JP

Congratulations!
Just so no one gets confused: I suppose max average is 2250 ;)

As I said I am still a newbie at this, 2250 was a setting someone kindly suggested, if anyone suggests changing it and it speeds the process up I'll give it a try,
for the moment I'm gonna use the same settings and then try and tweak things and see what happens
Regards
JP

I edited the 225 to read 2250.

BTW, kudos to jonnie for setting a good example for other newbies to follow.

Hi Jonnie.

Q:who do you think it is that answers your questions?
A:it is the people who have had the problems & share the info by helping others. :D

(or rather they are interested enough to stick around and "share what you know & learn what you don't"):)

Glad to hear you finally got some results.

I didn't mean it in a horrible way, you see a lot of people sharing their problems, me included, by that I mean asking for help, but not too many people sharing their success, by that I mean posting a thread and showing their settings.
I only say this to help everyone.

Doom9 is probably one of the best forum going, and hopefully will stay that way.

In just one week I've learnt more about svcd here than anywhere, how about a forum where users can post their settings when an svcd does go well !!

Just an idea, anyway as I said I didn't mean to be critical, I was only trying to help !!!

In other words we already have those who brings the apple and cherry pies lets all bring our contributions no matter how small

hey no problem.
I wasnt trying to be funny. nor did I take it in a horrible way.:)

personally I think you would find that the majority of people who use this software dont have any problems. they just use the software, are happy with it once it works & away they go.
and the number of users who actually have problems are the minority.
I could of course be wrong.

Svcd is such a complex topic & as users we dont all use the same spec machine & operating system, or software loaded.
we also dont have the same tastes in sound or video quality. E.G.: some like subs, & others dont.
they all equally cause different problems to different users.

I think if this was not the case then DVD2SVCD would not have to constantly rewrite the software to help solve users problems. he could then concentrate fully on improving the product if necessary.

just look at the threads re: AMD v Intel & XP v 2k they can get pretty tense.

hope this makes sense cos I've had a few drinks again.:D
