My settings are max 2490 min 2100 one pass vbr Q factor 5 Audio 224
audio 1 downsample unselected, Temporalsmother selected 2,1 .Simpleresize selected movie PAL 16:9, 100 mins no deinterlace

see what u get with temporal smooth deselected
not sure what effect the q has - id guess lower q gives slower speed
most posts on speed use multipass vbr
with no temporal smoothing and also the majority of the fastest speeds are quoted for ntsc encodes which are 0.2 faster on my machines than pal encodes and way faster than ntsc to pal encodes

so try temporal off
biff in an ntsc dvd and dont convert
raise your q (?)
and see what u get :)
