This question is not about converting HDDVD to Blu-ray. Is there a program that would simply cut out previews etc. and leave everything else unchanged on HDDVDs, just like Clown_BD can do that for Blu-Rays?

Not really. Since the format was dropped, so was the software for it.

It is possible to do this in a rudimentary way by editing the XPL navigation files. They are in XML and can be readily edited with a text editor to remove the undesirable playlists.
AnyDVD HD creates a copy of the XPL files in the windows "Documents & Settings" folder and then uses these copies for playback. If you edit them, then the title will play back with those changed settings. Editing of XPL files can only be performed when AnyDVD HD is disabled and will only be used when AnyDVD HD is re-enabled. This is a magic feature of AnyDVD HD that, along with XML navigation, is really missed with Bluray.
