No, the BD-R holds less than 25GB of data, only some 23. Like for DVD, instead of 4.7 there are only 4.37.

Do you mean make a DVD folder that is larger than a DVD9 in DVD format using a BD disk.
I have tried that, it works on a S/W player on PC but is not recognised on my Standalone player. The player seems to be confused because its a DVD format (VIDEO_TS) but on a blu ray disk. You can add DVD files using say TSMUXer that will be recognised as video files on BD disk and play on standalone BD player.

BD specs allow for MPEG-2 (SD), but not as VOB (DVD Video), it should be BD Video (M2TS). Use multiAVCHD and output BD not varii AVCHD (which allows only H.264).

Open TSMUXer, click ADD, add the vob(s) to tsmuxer, set the output to blu ray then the result is a valid BD disk containing m2ts at 720 by 576i/p (if PAL) SD MPEG2. The fact it came originally a from a VOB file dosent matter.
TSMUXer produces BDMV and CERTIFICATE files and the burned BD25 disk will play on any BD player.
Try it.

Only dvd_maniac can say, but it sounds like he ran in some sort of copy protection the ripper he used couldn't handle.
There are some protection schemes that fake TOC and let DVDDecrypter create files that are not on disc physically.
My suggest is to use DVDFAB or ANYDVD instead (if we talk about a DVD).

I'm not sure this makes any sense....since when could DVD video ever be 25 gigs??
Could you explain the source of this video? what is it?

I guess it would make sense if e.g. one wants to put 3X DVD-9 of Lord of the Rings trilogy on 1 BD disc or something. Or a lot of episodes of a TV show season. There is some merit to it I guess.

The original poster is asking, "is it possible to play back the DVD-Video application format from a BD disc in a BD player". It's a good question, and the answer is no, it's not officially supported. But you might find a player it works on, just as some DVD players could be tricked into playing SVCD discs if they were disguised as plain VCDs.

We don't know this, it's only your assumption.
Since then the OP didn't provide any additional info, obviously not interested anymore in this subject-matter.
It's another thread started by someone with an ambiguous question (maybe it's clear in his head), and lots of cultivated people try to make some sense out of it.
