Greetings to all,

I have recently encountered a problem after installing my Win XP. My Win XP keep getting a BSOD with the error IRQ_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL. (Sorry, I am unable to remember the exact phrase but it goes like this)

Is this an IRQ problem and is there any way to solve it ?

Computer Specs
--------------
A7V133 Asus Motherboard with 1007 Bios
Duron 900Mhz
640MB RAM
3Com 905B-TX
SB!Live
GeForce 2 MX-400
Win XP
--------------

My drivers are updated.

Thank you for reading.

Are you upgrading from Windows 9x ?

The Asus A7V133 has the 686B Southbridge, right ?

Is it always IRQ_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL ?

Finally I need to know your IDE-device setup.

after recovering from a bsod, a little message cmes up telling you that the system has recovered from a serious error, and will try to send an error report, let it. sign in using any old hotmail account, and give a brief description of what you were doing at the time. at this time, M$ will tell you what happened to give you the bosd, and will send you to a M$ knowledge base article that explains how to fix it.

Want a summary? if it happens frequently, then it is a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, this is not a real irq problem, this is an ancient hardware problem. replace your ancient hardware. I'm willing to bet that if you read the rest of the error message, it pointed to a device, and that device is not on the hardware compatibility list.

one more thing, before you get your panties in a knot over getting "caught" by M$, yes, I have xp and I allow it to do error reporting, no, I didn't pay for it, and no, no lawyers have come knocing on my door.

To TactX

I'm not upgrading from Win 9x but a fresh install.

My IDE setup goes like this :
SB!Live in Slot3
Network Card in SLot 5

Yes, A7V133 has the 686B southbridge.

To xzquala

I'm not very sure which is my ancient but I will keep a lookout for which device it points to.

Thanks for assuring me that no lawyers is going to come knocking at my door if I do the error reporting.

Thank you to TactX and xzquala for providing aid and suggestions.

That is your PCI-setup. I think TactX meant what version of 4in1 you're using and if you installed the filter or minidriver.

Oh, if this is what he means, I'm using the 4.37 VIA 4in1 drivers.

As for the whether which driver is installed, how do I find out ?

The filter drivers are installed by default on all Windows OS's except NT4 so if you haven't changed anything... ;-)

skyhigh,

try to boot with "GeForce 2 MX-400" put in only
and drive C: connected to IDE0 channel as master .
If same message,You should flash the BIOS with new version ( I recommend DOS mode flasher )

No I'm not talking about 4in1 drivers. The 686B Southbridge has a bug:
If you have drives on both IDE-channels it might deactivate CRC (Error-Correction) for BOTH channels. This problem is said to be even worse if a SBlive is used.
I've had the same problem (bluescreens of death) until I got the info about this bug. Then I've removed any drives from IDE-1 and since then my system is running fucking (sorry for breaking that forum rule) stable :)

Oh, I have drives on both IDE channels which might be the problem for my BSOD.

I will try to swap them around and see if it solves the problem.

Thank you.
