Good morning

Performing the test I noticed that integrating the subtitles in srt format, instead sub/idx,
the quality of the subtitles is better.

sub/idx Original DVD

srt

The stream srt creates problems or need to follow the standard DVD (sub / idx)

THANKS

sub/idx are pictures that need to be upscaled to screen resolution. srt can be rendered at arbitrary size, so they'll can look better.

You say it is better to stick to standard DVD (sub/idx)?

Also because the aim is to change only container
(DVD to MKV lossless no recoding)

THANKS

sub/idx is easier because you can just remux them.
Text subs like srt will look better but they are harder to create, since you need to OCR the original subtitles.
You can use either without reencoding, but sub/idx will me more straightforward.

I would keep the bitmaps. For some reasons:

I often have characters outside the "regular" 26 of the ASCII set
I don't need to OCR and correct the SRT, especially for non-ASCII chars (I see you have Italian ones)
I hate the # that is put instead of the MusicalNote, since the MusicalNote is available only in Unicode versions
It is possible to mix languages and page codes, because they are graphics, one can thus write even Huttese :)
Finally I don't use the PC for playing, and the availability of fonts on standalones is not granted outside Arial

The SRT/text subtitles are better in that they are rendered on-the-spot at the highest quality available.
This is my opinion, my solutions and my problems.
Yours might be different.

Your answers are important, because I have to make a decision.

Srt subtitles are only excerpts from the DVD with DVDSubEdit, then do the muxing with mkvmerge.

The question is whether this can cause some incompatibility with the player, MPC and VLC read without problems.

Thanks
