View Full Version : Where did this speed come from?

I have encoded two movies now with 1.06.3 and the CCE speed is higher then it's ever been. At first I thought that there must have been a problem and even though I selected BicubicResize it was using Simpleresize instead, but I looked at the avisynth file and it's using the right settings.
When I did the first movie I just chalked it up to the individual movie, but now I am on movie number 2 and still have this great speed increase.
With 1.04 I would average just under 1.5. Now I am getting 1.67+.
Did you do any kind of serious performance tuning between the 1.04 builds and the new 1.06.3?

In any case this is great. This will cut about an hour or more off my multi-pass VBR.

Great work.

the use of simple resize is the answer to your question!!, chek the thread about simpleresize for more info regarding this matter

"At first I thought that there must have been a problem and even though I selected BicubicResize it was using Simpleresize instead, but I looked at the avisynth file and it's using the right settings."

Mark just wrote down in that statement..that its faster tho he is using "BicubicResize" and that he understands SimpleResize would give him a gain....but he is not using SimpleResize and he is still getting a gain in speed....

or it is the process priority used by programs...that his now set to high ? who knows...

I went from a .712 speed to a .926, now I can do 5 pass more often.

Yes chainsaw135 you are right I got the gain while using Bicubic Resize.

I did not touch the Process Priority settings. Could the default have been changed?
I played with manual settings myself in the past using XP and changing the priority there did nothing for my speed.

I wish I could have stayed up last night to see what Simpleresize did for me, but I started it so late. I am guessing that if I get 1.67 now using Bicubic I must be well over 1.7 using Simpleresize.

It seems I am not the only one getting better speed nfl2k2 is showing improvement as well.

I would like to tell you what I did differently, but I don't have a clue. The only thing I changed was adding ResampleAudio(44100) in the avisynth script. The reason for that is that shh or ixi states that it can fix CCE crashes on an Athlon computer.

is everyone with the speed improvement on an athlon? cause my speed went up too with the same settings as before!

AND I DID NOT GET A CCE FREEZE WHICH WAS THE BEST THING!!!

i woke up expecting a cce freeze with 5 pass vbr and it was past that stage and out of hd!

:)

dvd2svcd whatever you did you are the BEST!

sorry i was on crack earlier... i seem to be on it often! :)

I'm a shit, well, excuse me, but that's not nice.

Assuming you maybe made a typo, I'm wondering what you mean,

shat, shet, shot, shut, shyt, slit, spit, snit, smit, hmmm nope. Strange.

In my school, people who are the shit are cool. or I show my friends my computer games and they say 'those graphics are the shit!'. it's a good thing:D

hi,

ive been reading a lot of posts regarding cce speeds since mine is sooooo slow (0.3) and now its even slower (0.2)!!!

if anyone has any clue as to why, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanx!!

That is way slow. 1.2GHz Athlon should do around 1.2.

Do you use dafe mode?

gigabot
3rd February 2002, 19:38
nope, it was regular mode
and i've tried switching a whole bunch of options, temperal smoothing etc.. to no avail.

My speed went from 0.64x to 0.78x
Using a TBird 1000 with 512mb ram
same settings same everything
4 pass vbr 224 audio

Encoding the movie Krull (PAL 16:9) gave me a speed of 0.69. And that on a T-bird 700 Mhz with 640 Meg. Not bad at all. So I switched to 5 pass VBR.

I can't tell you if CCE works more stable because the programm never crashed on my PC :) :)

My speed when up from 1.4 to 1.48-1.5 so i'm happy:)

I am running an Athlon XP 1700+. Is everyone that is getting a performance increase on an AMD?
Maybe adding Resample Audio (44100) was a real easy way to get a performance boost?
Did any of the DLL's get a new rev?

gigabot do a search on the older threads about CCE speeds and see if you can find any hints to try if not start a new post I will try and help you boost that speed. I already know that your PC133 memory is a serious bottleneck, but you could probably do better.

definite speed increase here on athlon for simpleresize of 10-15 %
havent tried bicubic again so cant back you up on the 'raw' speed increase without simpleresizing.
might have to give it a go to find out.

Currently 85% through my first encode with build 1.0.6b3,
Speed is up from 0.800 to 0.980 which is quite an increase.Creation of the Vaf file also showed the same speed gain.
Processor is Athlon Thunderbird 1.1 with 256 meg of pc133 ram doing 3 pass vbr.
I dont know where this increase comes from but i'm very happy :)

Yeah noticed a slight speed increase usualy I had 1.157 and now get arround 1.217, but since some one told here that the score of a Ahtlon 1.2 should be arround that, that means that my system a Ahtlon T-bird 1.4@1600Mhz with 512 DDR Ram (CAS 2) and a IBM 45 GB 7200 rpm UDMA 100 , should have scored a lot higher, any recommendetions on how to increase the perfomance ?

i went from 0.520 to 0.670 on T-bird 750 running @900
512mb ram.
i hope that i dont get any freeze now.

GREAT job dvd2svcd ! :)

remember that the simpleresize method is where most will get speed increases
markrb was interested if anyone is getting speed increase by still using bicubic or bilinear :)

I'm running a 1GHz T-Bird and it jumped from 0.7 to 0.88. That's doing a PAL movie using SimpleResize (default). Can't complain about that!
Good one DVD2SVCD.:D

Using a P3 800 here. With the simple resize filter running 1.06 b3, speed went from 0.34 to 0.47. (Although haven't tried bicubic resize yet)
