Can someone explain the purpose of the Auto Layout and Verify function in Scenarist 5?
Thanks

Auto Layout automatically place all the files in a better way and set layer break accordingly. If in the Scenario you use multi-angle or seamless playback, with auto layout those involved files will be placed adiacent on disk (even if the M2TS numbers are different) to keep the seamless playback or seamless multi-angle change. Also the AACS files need to be placed on top and bottom of both layers (in the second layer the AACS files are backups). With manual layout you need to put those files by hand and be sure to not screw something, plus you need to group interleaved files together. With auto layout it's all automatic (if it pass without problems).
The Verify function it's not clear to me too but I think that tries to see if all the files in the project are used or referenced in the right way.

The reason I asked is because I submitted a BD-25 to replication and didnt go through this process. Should I be worried? In fact...all I did was build with encryption on and output a BDCMF and delivered that. Hoping i didnt missed a step in the BDCMF delivery process for a BD-25 Could you advise?
What do you mean by seamless playback exactly?

For seamless playback I mean that you can play two or more clips in the playlist without any pause or skip or judder playback (similar to what happends with dvd) when the clip change.
Regarding auto-layout, even if you're authoring a single layer BD, it should be called because AACS files need to be placed in some 'reserved' are of the disk (mainly at the beginning and at the end of the disk). You can check where the files are placed in Scenarist if you go to Layout Editor->Physical Layout->Layer. You should have all the AACS files at the beginning of the disk and all of the AACS backups at the end of the disk.
Also, Auto-Layout is used to create sequence group. I don't know how much is important this step for a single layer BD, but surely it's essential for a double layer BD.

If you are just doing a straight feature title with one clip per PlayList, and no java, then you will probably be fine. If the AACS files weren't in the correct location, Scenarist would have given you a warning. For a 25, I think it puts them at the head/tail of the disc by default. On a 50, certain files need to be at the head/tail of each layer, so it's more complicated.
If you have any branching or seamless joins (i.e., you put more than one different clip in any single PlayList), then you want to do the auto layout to make sure these files are placed adjacent on the disc.
Also, if you are doing a Java disc, and have added folders in the JAR directory, the autosort will place all of those files sequentially at the head of the disc. This GREATLY increases the load speed of the Java code. I've seen a disc where this wasn't done, and all the Java files were stored on the second layer (but the disc directory is on the first layer), so every file to load, the disc had to go to layer 0, find the file name, go to layer 1, load the file, back to layer 0, etc... For hundreds of files. It took nearly 2 1/2 minutes to load the Java. After doing an autosort and re-burning the disc, it took about 25 seconds to load... _huge_ difference...
But, as a best practice, before laying out any final disc image, you should always run through the autosort. For a simple, single layer HDMV project, I'm sure it will work fine, but it's a good habit to get into.
Never really understood the 'verify' myself... I've never had it _not_ verify successfully...
