View Full Version : m2ts files with thumbnail?

Hi,

I am not sure, if this is the right forum to ask, but I will try: I am trying to burn a BR-Disc with multiple m2ts files (not with multiAVCHD because of different TV-systems (PAL/NTSC) and because of "wrong" resolution and me not willing to re-encode!) as a regular iso-disc to play it with PS3. The PS3 only shows it's regular symbols and the name of the file. Is there a way to make it show some kind of thumbnail for each file (e.g. a poste of the movie etc.)? For example with PS3 Media Server, when you browse through your files on your hdd, each file has a thumbnail (an extracted screenshot from the within file or if you place a png-file within the same directory, it shows the png file). Therefore I suppose there must be a way to do this with m2ts files.

Has anyone a clue??
Thanks!

PS3 uses 2 additional files for each video - that is when videos are saved on the internal HDD.

For example if you have movie.avi you'll also get:

movie.STH (static thumbnail, JPEG 432x240 24bit)
movie.MTH (motion thumbnail 15sec MP4 432x240)

Video
ID : 1
Format : MPEG-4 Visual
Format profile : Simple@L3
Format settings, BVOP : Yes
Format settings, QPel : No
Format settings, GMC : No warppoints
Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263)
Codec ID : 20
Duration : 15s 0ms
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 253 Kbps
Nominal bit rate : 768 Kbps
Width : 432 pixels
Height : 240 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16/9

I tried to add such files to external USB HDD videos, but it didn't work. May be it is worth the try with burned discs (I'll try when I have time).

Hi Deank,

Thanks for the info! What makes me think that there has to be a way is that when you stream your files with PS3 Mediaserver, there are thumbnails shown. extracts from the movie, but obviously this is a setting from the PS3 media server. So, there's got to be a way. :o
I will try around a little, too and I will keep on posting my thoughts and results here. You're welcome to do the same :o

Deank, did you find something? :o
I do not have a HDD for the ps3. Maybe you should try and add a short m2ts clip and see, if there's anything added, if possible? THx!
