View Full Version : ImgBurn ISO burned to DVD+R DL can't be read by player

OK ... this Blu-Ray stuff is a relatively new foray for me so I've probably made some sort of obvious coaster-creating blunder, just not sure what exactly.

Back in DEC09, I started backing up Blu-Ray discs to WD MyBook Home 1GB eSATA HDDs, initially using AnyDVDHD 6603 and ImgBurn2500 to create ISO's.

It didn't take long to figure out that HDD storage space was going to be an issue, considering Blu-Ray burners and BD (& BD DL) writable media were (and still are) non-economical.

Lately, I've poked around looking for a way to compress my backed-up Blu-Ray ISO's to DVD+R DL media and decided to try BD Rebuilder 0.34.07 Beta.

What I've done is mount a given Blu-Ray ISO image with Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.4.0 and set BD Rebuilder to:
Encoder: 'x264 Encoder', Output Options: 'Target Size BD-9 (DVD-9)' & 'Write to ISO file (with ImgBurn)'

The BD-RB encoding/compression/ISO Read/create process took 13 1/2 hours on my HP a6400f PC running Vista HP 32-bit.

The ImgBurn2510 ISO Write to Verbatim 2.4X DVD+R DL (Made in Singapore) media took another 44 minutes.

The burned disc cannot be read in my (home entertainment) Pioneer Blu-ray Disc Player BDP-121.

I'll attach the ImgBurn2510 ISO Read/Write logs so that more experienced eyes can possibly pick out what may be wrong.

FYI - LUK at ImgBurn thinks:

"Sometimes players won't play from discs that look like 'DVD-ROM' discs.

So you may have to disable the automatic booktype stuff in ImgBurn and get it so your disc is left looking like a DVD+R DL disc.

I'm not saying that's the case here, but it *might* be."

to which I followed up with:

"in the AnyDVD HD 6.6.8.3 status window, the VCD mounted image says 'Media is a Blu-Ray disc.' and the burned disc says 'Media is a DVD. / 'Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)'."

Does the BD Rebuilder invoked ImgBurn ISO create session rely on the ImgBurn settings for Booktype or would this be something that I would need to change in ImgBurn prior to the ISO Write?"

Thanks, FFF

Book type should not be important, but using UDF 2.5 is very important! If you have a BDMV and CERTIFICATE folder, ImgBurn should ask you if you want to use UDF 2.5, since it recognizes Blu-ray/AVCHD for the output.
If you are making a movie only or full backup, certain players have different compatibilities. This is most likely the problem.
BD-RB will set everything up for you correctly, but that does not mean your standalone will/can play AVCHD.
Perhaps take one or more of those discs that won't play in your player to a local retailer that has several different mfg's on display and see if they will work on any other player.

I don't know about BDP-121 but the BDP-120 model I've tested some months ago had some problems in recognising some AVCHD media burned on DVDR. The disks were played absolutely perfect by all its big-brothers (of that time): 320, 51FD, LX71, LX52, LX08, LX91...

Maybe you should have done some tests before buying a player ;)

Thanks for the help guys ...

Well, I've got an inquiry in with Pioneer, for all the good that will do.

As far as I know, the BDP-121 and BDP-120 are identical, the 121 being the Canadian market model and both use the same f/w. I got mine with Air Miles so am not out of pocket, per se. My unit is slow as mud to react to remote control commands, loading of content, ect. The damn thing sounds like a train wreck when you power it up or cycle the tray to load a different disc. I didn't think this entry-level player would be as clunky as it has turned out to be - I guess you get what you pay for ... sheesh.

BTW - the player's latest f/w upgrade ('BDP12X_148.MVP' as contained in 'BDP_120_BP9200401.zip' - 26APR10), is installed.
