View Full Version : Audio playing back slower than it should be?

I grabbed the Build 2 bundle today, and decided to give it a go with the DVD-single for Bjork's "All is Full of Love" video (nice and short, good for testing). The video looks great, but the audio is playing back too slow (the lower pitch and tempo are actually quite noticeable), and therefore gets further and further out of sync as the video plays...
I checked the MP2 that BeSweet spat out, and that seems to be where the problem is -- it's actually encoded at a slower speed, somehow. This didn't happen with the Build 1 bundle I was using last week...
Any idea what I've done wrong? I tried at both 192 and 224kbps, with the same results. I keep the audio downsampling on because I'd like my encodes to be SVCD-spec...

probably the bug of ssrc & negative delay combination.
download BeSweet v1.11 from my homepage.

Yeah, the audio delay was -67 or something.
Grabbed the new BeSweet, ripping now, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks!

thank you for finding a bug :)

I wanted to mention to all that many people forget this critical last step of saying, "It is fixed now".
When you do so, it allows the coders to "close" a bug in their list clearly and cleanly. Thx, ants!

Hello, I have been struggling with a similar problem for a week now with the latest codes so this is the time to escalate now since all I could find in the forums is related to audio synch problems, which is not the case here.
Symptom: I am encoding this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004XOR4/qid=1013767041/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_2/002-4491545-4571210) DVD. Widescreen anamorphic, and I decode the AC3 stream. I would like to have PAL SVCDs. Two bin files are prepared, quality is excellent, the video and audio are in synch, but regardless the player the whole film is cca 20% slower than it should be (running 1:58:31 instead of 1:38:40). I tried WinDVD, PowerDVD and Philips 751 with the same results. The ripped vobs in WinDVD file mode sound OK. Ripping was done using DVDDecrypter and internal routines, both of them gave the same. I tried with or without audio downsampling and different audio bitrates. None of them helped.
Software used: Windows XP Pro, dvd2svcd 1.0.6 build 4 with BeSweet 1.2.b1 (primarily used) or 1.11 (just for test, same result).
Here is Encoded_audio_1.log:

Checking the logs I posted today I found this part in Encoded_audio_1.log:
[00:00:00:-33] | Source Frame-Rate: 1001
[00:00:00:-33] | Dest. Frame-Rate: 1200
Hmmm. My playback is exactly 20% slower than the normal. Anyone knows the meaning of these values? Downsampling (48/44.1 = 1.088..)would cause a 8,8% difference...
Thanks,
Z

perhaps you should try enabling FORCEfilm?
nice concert, btw:)

In my understanding Force Film Automatic mode, which I'm using now, sets Force Film to On if dvd2svcd thinks it's needed. I suppose it analyzes the video framerate for this.
- Am I wrong?
- May there be cases when dvd2svcd cannot determinate the framerate well?
- Could someone explain what Force Film exactly does? I searched read though the Q&A, the FAQ and search both forums and found no details. Can it really make the output video+audio 20% slower to play?
Anyhow, I started a new run with Force Film = On. Will report.
Thanks,
Z

da franksta, this is to say a big thank you! Problem solved, all is perfect now.
Nevertheless, I suggest a new item to the Q&A ('cos I could not find there):
Q: What if dvd2svcd makes an error free cd but the film is played cca 20% slower that normal?
A: If the DVD is NTSC widescreen then simply set "Force Film" to "On" at the DVD2AVI tab.
Thanks again,
Z

Gee, Zoltan,
Proper information
Great follow up
and a Q&A to speak to your problem for the next guy.
I guess we have to give the weekly Awesome award to you this week. Thanks for setting a great example of how this is done! :)
