View Full Version : Better transparancy at Doom9

I suppose this has been somewhat lacking as of late.. so I've been quite busy over the week end.

For starters, I went over the FAQ, added a few points, especially about member's rights vis a vis how they are being treated (including strikes, and the appeals process). There's also more information pertaining to how the signup process really works.

The signup page has been revamped so that the most important points (rules, the need for email verification and the 5 day waiting period) are prominently featured.

Activation emails will also restate those facts.

Strike warnings should be a bit more frlendly, and tell you about the most frequently asked questions with regards to strikes (appeals, why certain links don't work and why you can't respond to them (that might change - depends on technical factors though)).

If anybody's interested, I can post the contents of all that since it is difficult to see unless you sign up / get a strike.

Then there's a lenghty document that outlines the reasoning for certain rules and how you can make sure you don't get into trouble (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156618). The document establishes some new policies with regards to commercial products - and issue that wasn't very clearly handled before. And I think the rule 6 guidelines should also help you stay compliant :) The thread is unlocked, so comments are allowed. Keep it contained to that thread though and keep it constructive. Also, moderator's didn't have all those guidelines written down in such detail before, so don't go digging up instances where you think a moderator deviated. Anything is non retroactive.

What's more.. we'll make the gist of our moderator rules public in the future.

And, if we find the right people, super moderators should help back up admins since they cannot always be around. It is a difficult job though so the positions aren't easy to fill (that's why we didn't have any for so long).

Well, there you have it. Now I really have to catch some sleep (yeah I do sleep and work... part of the reason why I cannot always be around...) . I have a meeting with customers coming up in a few hours.

Can we expect different behavior from neuron2?

Every moderator will be held to the same standards.
If you have a grievance, the FAQ has a new item that explains on how you need to go about it. Griping in public will only damage any reasonable case you might have.

Thank you, doom9, for updating your policies. I think the recent disagreements that may have partially led to your actions here were very unfortunate, and could have been avoided.

I'm glad you've taken action to improve communication here in the future. Well done.

I don't know what inspired the start of this thread, but if it is related to the FFMPEG licensing issues discussion, you are putting a cast on the leg while it's the arm that is broken.

Griping in public will only damage any reasonable case you might have.

So you would say, that the freedom of speech and the freedom of complaint doesn't affect doom9forum? I think that attitude is very dangerous to the whole community.

I think, that problems and complaints SHOULD be discussed with the public - especially if the subject is someone like donald graft or "Neuron2" as he calls himself. He discusses every single error someone in here does, but his own errors are not worth talking about - at least for himself.

A Community, however its structure is, should not be forced to give complaints only to the oligarchy. What is your problem with that? Why are you saying : "If you don't tell your problems to the administrative, your problem is nothing worth?" <- I mean this is the conclusion which comes to me, when reading your words?

Do you thought about, what you have written down there? What about democratic sense and so on? Why -in your opinion- a member of the community shouldn't have the right to talk in public about that problem? We are NOT talking about dumb hating or spamming - We ARE talking of real existing problems, i think everybody has had in the past - especially with Neuron2 and is endless arrogance towards new users.

But frankly speaking this problem affects not only this Doom9 Forum, but the German Doom9/GleitzDVD Forum as well. The deleting of posts and/or threads is like a sport over there, and it happened not only one time, that Arrogance of SMods/Ads/Mods spoiled the good mood, which i liked some years ago, when i first met Doom9Forum.

Griping in public will only damage any reasonable case you might have.
I DON'T think that keeping it secret to other users would be a good suggestion.

@Hagbard23

I've not always visited the German gleitz/doom9 forum regularly but when I was visiting I never noticed any problems, I can only say good things about the moderators I had to do with most, something I can say often but not always about neuron2 and Koepi. I don't want to be unfair here, everybody makes mistakes.
