First post here, I think I am in the right spot.

I am VERY new to doing this, so be kind...

I have a number of MPG files, but they are too large. 748-752mb.

I have Nero to burn, and I have a Cendyne (Lite-On) burner that does support over burning.

However when I try to burn these, apparently my file size is larger than Nero/burner will allow.

I am using 700mb media.

Do I need to compress these files more?

thanks.

In my opinion, files of the size you mentioned should be able to fit on a 700 MB (80 Min) Video CD, provided your MPGs are encoded in proper VCD compliant format. This is because VCD tracks are burnt using MODE 2. Some applications, not sure of Nero, add padding bytes to the MPG track when MPG is not in proper format and may cause increase in byte size.

MODE 2 , this reply would touch only the tip, you sure could get to read details elsewhere.
In a Data CD, when files are burnt to the CD, they occupy the disk in blocks of 2048 bytes in an available space of 2352 bytes. I believe the remaining(2352 - 2048 = 304) bytes store some additional info. This is also known as COOKED mode.
In an Audio CD ( and Video CD tracks), the full 2352 bytes of space is used. This is also known as RAW mode.
The following calculation should hopefully make things clear. All calculations are an approximation.

One 700 MB Data CD = 734003200 bytes = 734003200 / 2048 = 358400 Blocks or Frames.
In RAW mode , 358400 x 2352= 842956800 bytes = 803 MB.

This should explain why an image size of around 800 MB can fit on a 700 MB CD.
If anyone can add more details about this it would be fine.
