Hi,

after a bob deinterlace (50fps) i get this pattern

3:3:3:3:2:3:3:3:2 (First 25 frames)

3:3:3:3:2:3:3:3:2 (Second 25 frames)

The originale source material is 18fps

I would achieve this reduction

2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2
2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2

and then

1:1:2:1:1:2:1:1:2 (First 12 frames)

1:1:2:1:1:2:1:1:2 (Second 12 frames)

In order to get 24Fps and minimal frame repetition artifact.

How can i do?

Thanks much

UPDATE:

I've come to this solution

SelectEvery(25,0,3,6,7,9,12,14,15,17,20,23,24)

it seems to me the math is right.

I would be glad if someone can tell me a better approach

I take it the source is PAL? If so, why do you want 24fps output? And what's the output format to be? NTSC DVD, PAL DVD, something else, what? And a small sample might be helpful.

Hi Manono,

thanks for the reply. The source is the "Nosferatu" 1920 PAL edition by Master Of Cinema.

The quality of the frame is the best out there from the various editions, but...

The original fps was 18fps, the scan was done pal interlaced.
But we have on the dvd that even the semi-field is already blended.

After a bob deinterlace, some tweak to remove the frame blending, i got a (almost) clean sequence of frames, that followed the "strange pattern".

After applying the frame cutting according to my solution, i got a 24 fps video, wich is the best "commercial" and suitable fps.

Infact from the original 18fps, only 1 frame is added, so minimal frame-repeating artifact, and almost near to the original fps (for a original 18fps).

Unfortunately, the final result didn't satisfy me, because the frame unblending made it lost fluidity (because i think, the sequence was not so matematically precise, and some frame got lost) so, i imagine have to wait for the bluray release in wich (i hope) they'll do a progressive scan to 18fps, then to 24fps just adding 1 progressive frame as i did...

I hope... :)

Thanks anyway

As requested, provide a sample. I think it can probably be fixed to your satisfaction, using different and better methods than yours. The MoC people do very good work so I don't believe the DVD source would be messed up.

If you don't know how to make a sample, open a VOB in DGIndex, use the [ and ] buttons to isolate a small 10 second section that shows movement, go File->Save Project and Demux Video, and upload the resulting M2V to Sendspace or MediaFire, posting the link here.
