Well, I started enconding a movie last night, and my comp froze (for another reason) when there was 20 minutes left. So I thought I'd at least check the quality, and opened it up in nandub. It started rebuilding some index, took a while, then it said something about not having any keyframes.

I checked, and the movie really has no keyframes at all. I can't jump to a specific part of the movie in a player, just watch it from the beginning to the end.

My question is; isn't the keyframes supposed to be inserted simultaneously with the encoding process? Or are they inserted after the encoding is completed?

I followed the guide here on doom9.net (GKnot, Divx4, 2Pass). I'm going to do the encoding again tonight, but I really wouldn't want to end up with a movie with no keyframes in it. Have I forgotten something?

All help appreciated

Yes they are inserted, but your AVI was corrupt due to the reset. When you open it, check the box for extended options, then have it re-key the file.
