I have just bought a new pc running window's xp, and following doom's dvd2svcd guide have got as far as burning.I have nero 5.5 on my system but every file I tried to drag over to the project window was invalid,I think it should be the vcd.1 cue + vcd.2 cue file but am not certain I have also seen 2 bin files.I downloaded vcd easy v.1.07 to try but nothing could be highlighted, the guide I found was for v.1.05.Could anybody please give me some advice I dont mind trying a different program if some body could give me instructions or point me to a guide many thank's in advance

when using nero to burn the svcd. you do not drag the bin or cue files.
when you open nero, cancel the wizard or selection popup.
click on file, select burn image, and load the cue file you wish to burn.
it's up to you whether you simulate or not. personally I don't
click burn.
it's as easy as that.:)

Cheer's mate I have just tried that and I found everything, but i'me afraid I have come across another problem when I came to burn the image there was not enough room on the media. On further investigation when I clicked on info there were 2 identical sized images for each .cue file 2x657mb on one and 2x745 on the other any ideas as to what I have done wrong and how to rectify it,again many thank's in advance

O.K.
I believe there is a problem with cut sizes in certain versions of dvd2svcd.
the easiest way to avoid it is set the cd disk size smaller than actual disk size in bitrate.
try setting 740mb to 730 & 800mb to 790.
you can recover what you have already done but you will have to use crash recovery in misc settings. then select muxing & cutting to re-start.
the alternative is:
if your burner supports DAO it probably supports overburning.
this being the case, in nero select file, preferences, expert features then enable "overburn" set the maximum overburn size & try it again. (I would suggest 85mins)
note: you must use DAO to utilise this feature.

What's the version number of Nero you are using?
Because i had this bug too with Nero (doubled files) and i think it was 5.5.5.1 (5.5.6.4) or so? - Try to update to the latest version of Nero (5.5.7.2) as it solves some bugs in burning *.cue files (though it is not mentioned in the history file).

in answer to your question Re: nero update.
try www.ahead.de
to use crash recovery you need to make sure "dont delete any files" is checked in Misc settings before you encode.

You may also want to try VCDEasy. It's free and the link is in the Newbie FAQ.
Also I use CDRWIN for burning .cue/.bin files and I find it much better then Nero for this.
If you do want to use Nero you must use the latest version.

Alright mate I tried vcdeasy v1.07 but it came up with a problem with my I think it was called asapi layer,I am not sure about that but it was something like that,I could put it on again to find out exactly.I wasnt certain what to do with it so I just removed it incase I cocked something up,maybe someone could give me some advice on this.It has taken me ages but I have managed to get nero 5.5.7.2 to start downloading maybe this will sort out the double file issue for me but I dont know if I am entitled to the free upgrade or not until I try to install it which could leave me in the same boat.Thank's a lot for all advice so far and any more help that is hopefully coming

There is a drop down in VCDeasy on the settings page of CDRDAO to try different aspi drivers. I can only use generic-mmc. I think it's at default when you start.
There are about 6 or 7 of them. Give each a try until you get it to work. It should work. I haven't heard of anyone not getting it to work with one of those drivers, but there is always a chance it won't.

Hmmm, I think maybe those are specialized device drivers for cdrdao. Try installing force aspi from the D9 download page. If you have XP get the aspi drivers from a link on the dvd2svcd homepage.

Thank's everybody that has commented I have now managed to burn the dvd image's.The upgrade to nero 5.5.7.7.2 sorted it out for me,just one more question for now though when you have finished burning what files do you delete is it everything in the movie folder,or can you leave them and the next time you rip a dvd it will overwrite the old image thank's again in advance

seems to just overwrite the files
however would be safer to delete all the files created in case you have to use crash recovery for whatever reason.
