View Full Version : Blu-ray playback from HTPC workflow with WMP?

I'm hoping somebody can clear this up for me. I have a Win7 box that I use as an htpc, and it works really well with WMP. Loading dvd isos works great, or just playing back individual video files. But I'm having a bit of trouble with Blu-ray. I am able to get a disc image from AnydvdHD. It's the playback that's the issue. I LOATHE PowerDVD. It's clunky, it doesn't work well with my remote control, but mainly the audio is just too damn quiet on some discs. I thought I had come up with a better method using WMP.

For my first disc (The Hurt Locker), I could actually just mount the iso, go into the stream folder, and play the feature from WMP (0002.m2ts). No sound issues, no problems at all, looked great.

For my next disc (Inglorious Basterds), I found that the file would play with no sound because WMP cannot decode DTS-HD. Actually, it seems like I couldn't get it to decode DTS at all. No problem, I used TSmuxer to demux the whole stream, recode the dts to ac3, remux. Playback on WMP, no sync issues, full framerate, looked great.

Now I'm stuck on Master and Commander. On this disc there is also no ac3, so I recoded the DTS-HD to ac3 and remuxed. It's a mess. The video is playing far too fast, no matter what I select in "general track options". As such, the audio is always out of sync, unless I force WMP to seek, then it resets but of course it gets out of sync immediately again.

Is it just the case that WMP cannot play back some avchd files? Was I just lucky with my first two discs that it worked at all?

Hi!

As you've already discovered/sensed, WMP cannot process some audio formats.

Instead of WMP, try the freeware version of the "Splash" ("Splash Lite") player ...

There is no such sub-forum.
