View Full Version : AVS needed for entire encoding period?

My question is that I tend to make a lot of avs files which eventually start to clutter up. This is mainly because I do a lot of clips with different settings. I have noticed for the most part that once encoding starts the avs file is not constantly needed in order to complete encoding. Does the encoder just load the avs into memory and then forget about the file for the rest of the encoding time? I was looking for a way to be able to remove/delete the avs file once encoding started so that there would be less of a clutter since I encode up to 20 or more clips per day and it becomes a bit annoying to keep them while encoding.

I think it's a bad idea. What if something goes wrong during the encode and you need to start again?

It's just as easy to delete them afterwards.

You must be using batch files to do this, yes? Then just include some "delete" or "move" commands therein (after your encodings are complete).

But I dunno why, if you do "a lot of clips with different settings" you wouldn't want to KEEP the avs files in case you need or want to review later exactly what you did? I keep all my encoding files and zip them-up afterward.

I think the delete command would work nicely for what I'm looking for. I always keep the avs files on my backup disk for about a week's time but the clutter inside my encoding folder is just becoming unbearable simply because of the volume of processing that I do. Also I have another question. Does HCEnc or a 2 pass XviD/x264 use the avs file or "re-load" it into it's memory on start of the second pass or does it keep it in memory and use the pass 1 information to continue on to the second pass?
