Hi all,
What is the highest XviD setting for quality that I can use with MeGUI interface that can be played on DivX compatible player? Many thanks in advance.
:thanks:
Quantizer 1.
Max 2 consecutive b-frames.
QPel is no-no for DivX compliance.
I believe GMC is no-no aswell, but I'm not entirely sure on that.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

“DivX Home Theater” profile allows only 1 B-frame (and Packed Bitstream must be ON). Qpel and GMC are forbidden. The only allowed quantization type is “H.263”. The maximum supported bitrate is 4854 kbps with 1-second peaks up to 8000 kbps.
However, the limitations of this profile are a bit outdated nowadays. Many DVD players (especially the newer ones) support Qpel and 1-warppoint-GMC (the kind that was formerly used by DivX 5/6). 3-warppoint-GMC (as used by XviD) is not supported and should be avoided when encoding. More than 1 B-frame is supported by most players, but Packed Bitstream must be OFF with max > 1. “MPEG” quantization is usually supported, but when it comes to “MPEG-Custom” matrices, your mileage may vary. Matrices that don't use values lower than 16 in the INTER part seem to be safer than others.
Quantizer 1 is usually overkill - there's no visible improvement over quantizer 2, but the bitrate is considerably higher. The MPEG-4 SP/ASP quantizer scale just doesn't make much sense. Besides, XviD's ratecontrol has been always a little nitpicky about quantizer 1 - the default overflow treatment settings (5/5/5) quite often produce oversized files when quantizer 1 is being used.
