I was wondering if it is possible to stream divx videos on the internet? How could I do it? Are there any possible licience fees or other expences. And just as a side note I will not be streaming DVD rips, this is about the only place that I know to ask. Also any other comments that might be usefull are very welcome. :)

Thanks,

AVI files are not designed for streaming. ASF files suit for that better.

OGM ? Ogg Media maybe can help you, or wait for MP4 file format

Maybe you can help find a new codec to use. I need one that can be streamed with fairly good quality, and doesn't have any licence fee for using it. Is there an open source streaming codec anywhere?

As prr stated, AVI files aren't streamable.
However, that is a lack coming from the file structure itself, not from the codec.
Would it be possible to put another codec than MPEG4 for ASF (the only streaming format I now apart from Real)? The Production kit is locked by M$ if I remember well... I don't think that would be impossible: look at the DivX ;)n, which originally came from a hacked MPEG4 codec, wouldn't it?
