View Full Version : Encoding/Authoring Multi PGC in one VTS (play all button)

Hello all,

I have no idea if the answer for my question is already somewhere in this forum. I tried to search for it, but no satisfied answer came up.

I'm trying to rip a DVD with multiple episodes. These episodes are all in the same VTS, with multiple PGC's. The first PGC is a very long one (all episodes) and refers to the 'play-all' button in the menu. When I'm ripping and encoding, I select all PGC's in DoItFast4You, but I have to deselect the first PGC in Reauthorist (because otherwise the other PGC's are seen as Extra's).

My question is: how do I keep the structure of the original DVD (so that the play-all works, seperate episode selection works, but in a way that I don't have to deselect the first PGC to keep the bitrate high)...

I hope someone can give me a clue/tip or solution. I ripped already a lot of these kind of DVD's, but still disable the play all button on the menu :-))) :thanks:

DIF4Y should give you a "clean" copy of the DVD, perfect for burning on a DVDR, maybe DVD DL.

Well, explain better what do you intend to do. I used once DIF4U, out of curiosity, also on a multiPGC DVD, and I don't remember these issues - the copy was a perfect functional clone (except for CSS and probably, the protection).

Actual situation:
Prison Break Season 1 Disk 1, contains 4 episodes. DIF4Y shows VTS01 as being the master. VTS contains 5 PGC's, first one is 2h+ and the four others are +/- 41min.

My easy guess is that PGC1 is linked to the 'play all' button on the DVD and the other ones are link to one specific episode. When ripping, I select all 5 PGC's to avoid later problems in Scenarist. Everything goes ok, and then Reauthorist opens, again giving all 5 PGC's.

Now here starts the confusion/question. To have a good bitrate I have to deselect the first PGC and reset the other values. I do this because I prefer to have the episode selection on the DVD working rather then the play-all button. When rebuilding/encoding all goes well, but my question is: how can I reauthor/relink the play-all button to play all the episodes with the correct chapters?

Open the DVD in VobBlanker to confirm that the space is given to all the episodes together as you say, rather than to them separately (the other 4 PGCs, the episode ones, should all show as 0 MB in size). If so, encode the entire thing, author a menuless DVD using Muxman, and then use the 'Replace' button in VobBlanker to stick the reencoded portion back into the DVD. All menus and everything else will work as originally.

This may require you to learn how to encode manually, rather than relying on other programs which apparently you don't fully understand. Heck, I didn't know anyone was still using DIF4U.
