View Full Version : Filesize is always off, is it DivX 4's fault?

The 1 CD rips aren't too bad, usually 30mb off at the most. But the two cd rip made last night is nearly 100 meg off! I remember reading that this has more to do with the DivX 4 codec than anything else. Is this true?
Thanks,

yeah.. divx4's size prediction isn't nearly as good as nandub/sbc

i may try out DivX 3 instead some day... I haven't been into encoding for long and I've only used 4.12 as it was the newest one. Is there a big quality differance between the two? It seems that DivX 3 is more reliable, plus its been around a lot longer.

P.S Don't mean to be fussy but is there a big differance in encoding speed? It takes long enough to encode with 4.12!

Personaly i find DivX 3.11(and Xvid now) better than DivX 4.12...The encoding speed is a less than DivX 4.12(I get with DivX 3.11 24 fps and with DivX 4.12 26 fps) but DivX 3.11 is more predictable and (for me) better....

I believe that XviD will be the answer to all our divx4 problems :)

does the picture quality differ much between the two codecs? I may give it a shot sometime but to be honest im happy encoding with 4.12, the unpredictable filesize is annoying though.

what is Xvid? There seems to be a lot of talk about it recently... Is it a brand new codec or a hacked version of DivX?
