Hi,

I am looking for a decent codec to store my timelapse clips, which are rendered in Adobe After Effects CS5.

Is DPX the way to go? I have not found alot of info on DPX, the Wikipedia entry is very general.
Since it uses log instead of linear space I expect that I have alot more headroom than other linear codecs for further colour corrections in a NLE, is that right?
Are there any special colour space traps inherent to DPX, that can lead to unsatisfactory results?

Best Regards
David

DPX is a bit tricky.

I would suggest OpenEXR.

Hi Loadus,

why do you consider DPX as tricky?
I used OpenEXR alot for photographic applications, but never as an archival format for processed pictures.
Can you elaborate that a bit more?

Best Regards

if your using a digital camera, so the response is already linear NOT log. the only ways to get log response are to scan your film or post-process and use LUT curves but that is only an approximation.

What's the word length precision of your source?
