I want to playback my dvd without using the slow ASPI layer? How do I do that?
Thanks,

Well in Win9x I don't think it's possible, in Win2k/XP you can uninstall them but why? The ASPI layer for me gives a performance boost when ripping and general extraction from CD/DVD's. To uninstall, use ForceASPI which unless Doom9 has taken it down due to bandwidth problems, is on the software page. If not, look on www.divx-digest.com.

forceaspi is still up.. the amount of traffic it generates is insignificant compared to other files which I now removed (we're talking almost 100GB for a single file here... go figure).
but.. afaik all software players use their own aspi layer.. what's with aspi anyways? you don't need performance for DVD playback

I understand what you both are saying, but the fact is that I used ForceASPI to create an ASPI layer...I could play every DVD fine, but afterwards it is gittery. I tried to remove it, but it said that the backup one I made was not available.
So basically, it is slow.
One thing I just thought of. The DVD I am playing is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which I never played on my computer before. Maybe it has such a high bitrate that my DVD can't keep up?
Is that possible?

if something can't keep up it's your cpu and gfx card.. there's no problems with forceaspi known to me and there are many many people using it daily without the slightest problem. must be something else causing the problem.. maybe you're in for a reinstall
