Hello all,
I'm working with a strong computer - AMD 1800+, 512Mb
However, my CCE_RT speed, is relatively slow - 1.09
I understand from Q&A that it should be much faster.
I tried to overclock. but the R.T remains the same.
I'm using 4 VBR pass. So what's wrong here?
Thanx, Cikey

I have an AMD 1500+ at 1.33 gig under Windows XP with 512 DDR Ram - a slower processor than yours and I get about 1.24 RT on a 16 X 9 encode and somewhat faster ( 1.4+ )on a 4 to 3 encode. Check to see that the DMA ( direct memory access ) is turned on. Under Windows XP I think you have to turn it on in the setup program but I am not sure. If DMA is NOT enabled it will slow down your system ..

You have to give some information like with what type of DVD you get this speed. For example encoding PAL is slower than NTSC, also the encoding speed differs with the aspect ratio and so on. Also using Temporal smoother decreases CCE RT speed by about 30% and the use of inverse telecine too.
Another thing is how many programs you are using in the background when encoding, what type of Memory you have and what kind of chipset your Mobo uses and so on.
So give some information about that, so that your RT speed can be compared to others.

P.S. I remember a lengthy thread some time ago about the exact same question - so did you search the forum?

I have a Via KT266A mobo with updated drivers. DMA is on by default.
I'm decoding 16:9 PAL movie. I don't downsample audio, and I don't use 'temporal smoother'.
I close all other applications, and I'm still getting this low CCE_RT encoding speed of 1.09.
and, yes - I've read the long thread about this, posted a month ago.
I don't know what else is wrong. I guess I'll have to sattle with this.

Huh - that's strange.
I get about 1.05 in a 2.35:1 PAL 16:9 encode with my 1.2 GHz Duron and 256 PC133 CL2 SDRAM under Win2k.
So there must be some bottleneck within your system - did you check your memory BIOS settings and so on like suggested in the other thread. (Do you get regular results compared to other systems by benchmarking your PC with the Sandra-Benchmark?)
