Hi all,
I have a 1080i60(looks to be 24p with a pulldown) ProRes quicktime file and I would like to convert it to a center cut 4:3 720x486 Matrox MJPG avi file. (Matrox Digisuite compatible.)
I have access to both a Mac and PC....What is the best way to go about converting this file?
I have VirtualDub and avisynth, and a pretty good knowledge of both...My main concern is dealing with the pulldown when resizing and resizing without getting any aliasing.
Any thoughts?

IVTC before resizing, you can always add pulldown back afterward.

Ok i've got the file workable with avisynth now..and I've done a IVTC...however I am getting mega aliasing when resizing to 720x486..or even 720x480. And this is before any pulldown is being added, so I'm working with a completely progressive file.
Any ideas on how to reduce the aliasing?

Post an unresized (and un-IVTC'd might well be best) sample and the usual suspects will probably have some good suggestions.

What resizer are you using? The spline resizers have the least aliasing from downsizing in my experience. Lanczos4 is best for up-scaling.

hmm did some testing, it seems like the codec is the problem. If i encoded it to DV or Matrox MJPG, i got mega aliasing. But if i encoded to xvid for example, it was fine.

That's probably because your DV encoder and the Matrox MJPG are trying to interlace the input (or interpret is as interlaced). You should ensure you're feeding these codecs what they expect.
