View Full Version : What kind of blending is this?

This is unprocessed footage from an original Video-DVD (PAL), which contains some annoying blending, probably from a bad conversion.

Looks like there are a few "good" frames, then a few frames with gradually increasing blending, then a few "good" frames again and so on.

Any suggestions how to deal with this?

:thanks:

Someone did a frame rate conversion from 24p to 25p, thus creating this horrible mess.

it is theoretically possible to un-blend this.
But it will come out very complicated and very artifact prone.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to give it a try, at least. Any suggestions where to start?

That seems like a job for RestoreFPS (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=94091). But I never have used it, so can't help any further.

Hmmh ... after having a short look at the sample, this probably is *not* a ConvertFPS-style conversion. It seems more like a "standard fieldblending" normconversion that has been "deinterlaced" by field averaging.

Don't know of an existing aproach to undo this. Srestore afaik can not handle such a mess.

Deinterlacing isn't needed, it's already progressive frames. Also I tried SRestore, but it didn't help.

Maybe specific settings for SRestore are needed here? On the other hand Didée said SRestore can't handle this case :o

Argh. Maybe I will try to get the NTSC release then
