I am very new to dvd2svcd, great program and i followed the newbie instructions to the letter. The finished result it seems will only read on my pc cd rom (sony 52x dma). I cannot get the cd to read on my standalone dvd player. The player works with svcd as i have tried it with friends svcds that they have purchased from some obscure overseas country. I have checked the mpeg file and they are all ok, and i am using nero 5.5 to open the image and burn to disc (no errors reported). I dont know what I am doing wrong... any suggestions??

It could also be a problem with Nero. Try Vcdeasy.

Purchased SVCDs would be pressed (usually), whereas you have burned yours onto cdr. That may be the source of the problem. Check the compatibility list at vcdhelp.com to see what it says about your player. It may be that it will handle cdrws but not cdrs, or it might not handle either.

Sounds like maybe your dvd player doesn't support chapters. Can you disable PBC (plackpack control) on your player?

Yeah like Matthew said ....could be you can read cdr's or cdrw's hope its not cdrw's tho ..man that could get expensive:)
Well thats good news that you can burn with cdr or cdrw's
WHy dont you post your DVD2svcd log file so we can see what might be going on.

Its kind of weird, I used nero to burn the mpeg file as a svcd and that plays on the standalone player. except with no title or chapters at all. but when i burn the bin file to disc which contains the chapters, that is when i cant get any cd drives except the 52x sony cd rom to read it. so i know that my dvd player will accept cd-r and cdrw so I'm guessing that the problem must be in the bin file but its got me completely stumped.

Have you tried to install Demon Tools? At this way you make a virtual DVD-player wich can load the *.cue files and play the movie (*.bin) in windvd or Powerdvd. At this way you can see if the binfiles are corrupt. I burn also with nero and never had problems with it. I use version 5.5.56 of nero. When you want to burn the *.cue files you have to close the wizzard and go to file. Then go to Burn images and load you cuefile. Burn your cd's at 1x speed.
Try this http://www.vcdhelp.com/burnbin.htm
Good luck.

Download the latest version of Nero at http://www.nero.com/en/download.htm and update yours. I used 5.5.6.4 before and there where some issues when burning the *.cue files in Disc-at-once mode with some burners (like my mitsumi). The new version (5.5.7.2) seems to fix these problems (at least for me), so give it a try. They definitely fixed some bugs with the *.cue file burning although it is not mentioned in the version history.

oh wellz.. I guess i'm gonna have to live with having svcds that dont have chapters. I tried easyvcd and that failed (failed as in giving me the same result as previous). I tried buring the bin file with fireburner and that still failed, and i even tried burning the bin at 2x speed and still the same result. I do have the latest version of nero already and my burner is a diamond data 32x12x8. hmmmm... it could be worse i guess

Are you burning with Nero by loading the *.bin files (File/Burn image...)?
This causes problems with Nero (chapters never worked for me this way). You have to load the *.cue files (one after another) and burn the images so that the chapters will work.
In addition you can try the latest dvd2svcd and choose another option for the chapters ("PBC use Playlist").
Here is a link for it.
