View Full Version : Encore CS4 - BD5 or 9 - Panasonic DMP-BD65 - Grrrrr!

Today I received a Panasonic DMP-BD65P, which seems great in comparison to my 2007 Sony BDP-S300, but my current problem is that BD5s or BD9s that I authored with Encore CS4 don't work. I know that Encore doesn't support these formats, but it was very easy for me to author the disc to a blu-ray folder and then burn it to DVD using UDF 2.50 or 2.60. They would play just fine in the Sony, but not in the Panasonic.
Now, I know that multiAVCHD has a build mode to have stricter compatibility with AVCHD DVDs, but the problem is that I want to author in Encore CS4 because I can author menus with any look I want, and it even allows pop-up menus. I would prefer to use Sony DVD Architect (which has support for BD5 and BD9, so it might work in this player), but it is really picky when it comes to files not produced by Sony's own encoder, and I prefer to use x264 for quality reasons.
Is there a way to modify the BD structure produced by Encore CS4 to make it compatible with all players, especially Panasonic? I suppose Encore sets a flag somewhere saying that it is a BD25, and some players ignore it, like my old Sony, and some others don't.

Can't you pass the output of Encore to MAVCHD in reauthor mode?

Sorry, I don't see any "reauthor mode" anywhere in the multiAVCHD GUI.

Sorry, I don't see any "reauthor mode" anywhere in the multiAVCHD GUI.
At the top, middle button, says " AVCHD/BDMV/DVD Folders".
I'm not sure if this will work for you in re-author mode, but before you import your BDMV folders, go to the Author tab and select "Stricter AVCHD folder format".
Your choice of players is going to bring you less compatibility for what you are trying to create than the Sony would! :p

Thanks, actually I figured it out by dragging the folder with the BD structure into the main window and it asked me if I wanted to switch to re-author mode, and it worked fine, the player reads the burned disc just fine.
However, it would be great if I could find a faster way to do this, because while this method works, it involves basically copying the whole authored structure to another folder. Since I will have to do this for every BD5 and 9 that I author, it will add up to a lot of extra time.
Is there a program that will let me change something in the structure that is already on the hard drive created by Encore? I loaded it in BDEdit but I didn't see anything obvious that I could change to make it compatible.

You can use the option [x] Move... [x] all in SETTINGS tab, so all files will be quickly moved and not copied. It will take just ~1min to reauthor your disc, which basically will be what you need.
You can do it in BDedit, but then you'll have to edit all bdmv/mpls/clpi ExtensionData() manually and believe me it will take hours.
Another thing to try is to use goBD (http://multiAVCHD.deanbg.com/goBD.exe). Copy it in your multiAVCHD folder, start it and load index.bdmv from your Encore generated structure. Apply the changes and check the disc in your player.

Try applying AVCHD Patcher (http://www.videohelp.com/download/AVCHD-Patcher_1.06.rar) to Adobe CS4 output.

Why Panasonic doesn't like all of the BD5 and/or BD9 DVDRs was explained several times in this forum.
