I have stacks of SVCDS Ive made, but I have one question....HOW DO YOU PULL MENUS BACK OFF THE DISC INTO A BMP?
My Puter got wiped, and I no longer have the BMPs I used to make them.
Also, why doesnt anyone have a SVCD rip guide...
How do you get a mpeg OFF a SVCD again if you wanna re-encode to something else.
I saw a guide on how to make a "still" mpeg for menus from bmp and jpeg, but not the reverse.
I use Nero to Burn,if that matters.

Vcdxrip (from the vcdimager package) rips whatever is on the disc ... including menu stills. They are not bmps anymore, though ... it's up to you to convert them to whatever format you desire. I am not sure which program will open mpeg stills (you might have to demux them first), though.
If nothing else helps, play back the still image and do a screenshot ... :).

I had track names, which meant that if I used the "screenshot" method I would have to doctor them anyway to get them original again.Since NERO adds text to them itself,I thought the text might be another file on the disc and the original pic was still on there somewhere.
I started burning SVCDS with the for-thought that when DVD-r became feasable(which IMHO hasn't yet even),I would be able to use them as a "back-up" to making DVDs.
But since my Sony and Apex both play them(standard or not),I'm not worried.
Just one word of note using Nero to anyone who uses it for writing SVCDs(in case someone else hasn't posted it,which I doubt).
I have two different players, one Sony..One APex.The SOny is an older model(DVP-S300).It has the Dual-Laser transport, and has excellent picture quality(Digital Noise Reduction). It will fast forward and rewind ANY format(VCD,SVCD,XVCD).It will not show a menu for VCD or SVCD.
My APex(AD-703),is capable of playing ANYTHING(Mp3,SVCD,VCD,DVD-rw,CD-RW).When playing a SVCD recorded in NERO using STANDARD..it will time search, but will not FF or RW.
If I use NON-STANDARD,it will FF and RW,but not TIME SEARCH?!?!
I just thought it changed the name of the folder that got written on the CD that had the video in it,but it(the folder name)must also tell the player what format to expect when playing it.
ODD TRICK INDEED...
ALSO,using NON- STANDARD,I can see my menus in WINDVD...but not in standard?!?!
ODD...that I have so weird of problems using the "standard".....lol.
Thats just funny to me.
Before you go and buy ANY APEX(or ANY mp3 capable DVD/CD player)though,be warned it has ONE SIDE EFFECT I FOUND BY ACCIDENT THAT THEY WILL NOT PLAY A LIVE CD without GAPS BETWEEN TRACKS.It Sucks now, since Ive found out(I love Live CDs,I have bunches).Even Dark Side of the Moon has a 0.5 sec gap(sounds like a damn drop out)after every track.I bout threw away several CD-Rs I made because of it.I see more and more car decks adding mp3 support, and I hope they have solved that snag.
BTW(again....lol),anyone who is using XP and Dazzle DVC-II...dont hit the enter button whilst recording..it locks it?!?!
Sorry to be long winded about a stupid menu(I found a back up I made two hours after I posted BTW,but still wanted to know a way to extract one..just in case),but I just wanted to inform you guys of snags IVE had in my foray into video production.
SVCDs for episodes of shows.
DIVX for movies.
VCDs for junky VHS and BETA(I have a SONY..still works fine after Ive gone through four VHS machines..lol) stuff I made and or have.
My record for SVCD is:
The Best of Cosmos-1 hour,20 minutes at 2 Mbps(VBR)-One Disc
DIVX:
Warner Toons(IVTC,which helps in two ways, space and image)and two pass Gordian-Knot Method
Avg. 7 min
40 megs(but I mono the audio...)each,16(about)a disc.
VCD is a standard so...
I hope my post(and any replys) are helpful.
