I'm using the VCD guide for the first time and have some problems with the subtitle.
The frame serving of virtual dub doesn't work. I've inserted the proxyon data on my data-base, lunched virtual dub, open the video and adding the subtitle. I lunch the frame serving and don't touch the small window. Then i've lunched TMPGenc and do all is needed. But the resulting video don't have any sub.....
where is the problem ? did i make a mistake somewhere in the process ??

Do you get your video in TMPGEnc when you frameserve?
Then no problems with the frameserving.
Check the output frame of VirtualDub. When you move the slider bar do you see the subtitles?

When i'm using Virtual Dub in frame serving, i add the subtitle and it's ok but only in V.D.
I start the frame serving and don't touch the window. Then i launch TMPGenc and do all i need to encode. I start encoding but the video i see in TMPGenc don't have the subtitle. And the mpeg don't have too.
what to do ? i think it's the frame serving but i'm sure i've done every think as it's written in the guide.

I ever make my VCDs with subtitles in portuguese.
I start VD, add the filter called subtitle, select the SSA subtitle (converted from sub ou srt), than frameserve to TMPG.

nemoz,
I am sure something is wrong in the process. If you see the subtitles on your Vdub output frames, you should see it in the TMPGEnc also, because that is what is being frameserved.
OK try the following steps.
1. As usual, apply the filter in virtualdub and check if your subtitles appear in the virtualdub output window.
2. Click File -> Start Frameserver.
3. A dialog box will pop up. Click OK.
4.You will get another dialog box asking you for a vdr filename. Enter the filename (include the extension .vdr also).
5.Your will now end up with a small status window instead of the main virtualdub window.
6.Open TMPGEnc and in your video source, open the .vdr file you just created in step 4 and encode it.

i've done exactly what you've written. But my TMPGenc don't want to load the vdr file. It stays frozen and does't do anything. i must kill the the executing using Ctrl+Alt+Suppr.
some informations : i'm using Virtual Dub 1.4.8 build 13719 and TMPGenc 2.50.32.120

thanks a lot for yous help. if i haven't read your help, i would never think about the back task.
really thanks a lot.

I have exactly the same problem as Nemoz. Pitty he didn't told what back task he turned off.
Is it possible the frameserver is blocked by a Firewall (using Norton Int. Security).
Thx,
Willem

I had a similar problem with TMPGEnc. It never used to load
my vdr files, like nemoz it used to wait till I gave a Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Ever since I downloaded ReadAVS.dll (TMPGEnc plugin for AviSynth) and installed it, I am not faced with the problem. You should be getting the ReadAVS.dll from Avisynth site.

Tried it but it didn't work :(
When opening a .vdr file or a .vdr.avi file the Tmpgenc freezes and I have to quit the program.
Any other solutions?

Got it to work now :)
I installed an older version of Tmpgenc (12a the last freeware) and it worked at once.
Only thing I would like to know is how to select a small part in this version, so I can make a sample first, before recoding the whole movie.
