Blu ray player no longer plays

I've got a HP DV7-1264nr with a Bluray player. All of a sudden, I can't play Blu ray(s). We tried playing "Public Enemies and nada.
Then checked on other discs we'd played previous and also nada.

I think it may have something to do with a failed update request from the player software?

The DVD functions are fine, and I can communicate with Bluray
disc via the explorer function...see the files, etc.

Am I missing something here?

How long ago did you get this particular system? I ask because it's possible that you were using an OEM trial version of BluRay player software that has expired...

It's an HP Laptop (Pavilion Entertainment) I got it about a year ago. Blurays have played fine until now.

I reinstalled the Bluray software (HP MediaSmart) from their website to try to remedy this, with no success.

When new Blurays are released with new encryption codes, are updates required to player software?
