hi i have a 16x dvd rom drive, a 32/6/4 cdrw drive, a 20gb 5400 rpm hard drive and one 7200 rpm hard drive. These are currently all my ide devices that my computer has and I was wondering what would be the best combination to put these four devices together on my two ide lines for dvd ripping?????
What are some other good forums that i can discuss this issue at, as in discussing computer hardware related rather than dvd ripping.
Cheers

no sure whats the best for ripping but heres how i got mine setup
got burner slaved to dvd (found i don't get any underbuffing this way when i do a disc to disc)
OS hdd is master to storage hdd
and my encoding drive is all alone by itself.
difference here is that i have a ABit KT7A-RAID board so i have more ide than devices.
oh and there is a hardware forum in doom9 just scroll down a bit more..

thanks for the reply wogmai
so you have three ide channels on your computer????
right now I have my cdrw as the master to my dvd rom drive
and my 7200 rpm harddrive master to my 5400 rpm hard drive
Does rate of transfer of data get affected between two ide devices on the same ide channel??

You would want your DVD drive master to you burner. This usually makes the actual ripping of DVD's faster.
I have noticed quite a speed improvement between saving anything on a 7200rmp HD over a 5400rmp HD. I don't know if master/slave has any effect here, but it would be best at least write on the 7200rmp HD. Maybe even read+write from it.

Thanks for the reply Acaila. What type of saving faster on a 7200 rpm hdd than a 5400 rpm hdd
